Blackburn Cathedral
Blackburn Cathedral is one of England's newest cathedrals, yet it is one of the country's oldest places of Christian worship. For many centuries, this has been the Parish Church of Blackburn dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin.
Blackburn’s stunning Anglican Cathedral offers visitors a green oasis of calm in the bustling town centre.
There has been a church on the cathedral site for more than 1000 years and, in 1926, the impressive parish church of St Mary the Virgin was raised to cathedral status.
The original church now forms the cathedral’s nave. As well as stunning architecture, the Cathedral contains a fantastic religious art collection, including the 35ft sculpture, ‘Healing of the Nation’ on its exterior, described as one of the most innovative pieces of modern sculpture at any English cathedral.
The Cathedral hosts a full programme of major musical events to keeps music lovers happy. They also have regular free lunchtime recitals featuring visiting musicians from other Cathedrals & Dioceses'.
Blackburn Cathedral has always been a place for community gatherings and we are delighted to offer its wonderful, inspirational spaces for a variety of uses.
Blackburn Cathedral provides a dramatic backdrop for an array of events including gala dinners, award ceremonies, conferences, intimate fine-dining, fashion shows, brand launches, music and performance.
